2025 Activity Report: A Record Year for «grow cluster»

A strong year for «grow cluster»: in 2025, the companies in the network impressively demonstrate the region’s innovative strength – with record figures, key breakthroughs and a leadership transition that sets the course for the future.

2 minutes

«grow cluster» looks back on an exceptionally successful year: in 2025, companies within the network signed financing, licensing and acquisition agreements worth more than CHF 1.5 billion.

This continues an impressive growth trajectory. Over the past ten years, member companies have secured more than CHF 3 billion in third-party funding, investments and milestone payments. A significant share of these funds is being reinvested directly into the development and expansion of the companies – and, consequently, into the region.

Success Across the Board

Several grow companies achieved major milestones in 2025, both in research and financing. Particularly noteworthy were substantial corporate transactions and licensing agreements in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

At the same time, the strength of the network is reflected in its diversity: alongside established companies, numerous smaller firms contribute to the dynamism of «grow cluster» through innovative ideas and technologies.

In addition, two new start-ups joined the network in 2025: PhalconBio GmbH and Plybio GmbH, both of which focus on combating infectious diseases.

Change in Leadership

A significant transition took place at the end of 2025. After 16 years at the helm, Prof. Dr. Dolf van Loon handed over the operational leadership of grow to Dr. Peter Steiner.

A Strong Foundation for Future Growth

At the end of 2025, «grow cluster» comprised 19 companies employing more than 220 people. Around 90 percent of these companies operate in the life sciences sector, particularly in the fields of health, nutrition and the environment.

A key factor behind this success remains the close collaboration with ZHAW and the support provided by grow’s real estate partners. Together, they offer highly specialised laboratory facilities and infrastructure, creating ideal conditions for innovation and growth.
