Dairy products are responsible for around 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Plant-based alternatives could help to reduce emissions, but these products often lack the creamy consistency created by the fat content in milk. Cultivated is working to change this. The company is developing an ingredient made from non-GMO yeast that provides the creaminess that makes plant-based alternatives more attractive for dairy products. Cultivated was founded in 2021 and works together with the ZHAW in Wädenswil.
